Palestrina

Palestrina - a city and commune in central Italy, former Praeneste, lying on the slope of the Apennines, in the Lazio region (now Lazio), in the province of Rome, 37 km east of Rome, with which it was connected in antiquity by Via Praenestina. Tradition derives the city's history from mythical times: its founder was to be Caeculus.. The oldest archaeological finds come from the Late Bronze Age. Extremely rich burials of the Etruscan type, dating back to the 7th century BC. indicate that at that time it was a leading city in its region.

Castel San Pietro Romano

According to tradition, the apostle Peter preached in these parts, but his origins can be found in the Middle Ages, when the people of Palestrina moved to these hills to find a place that was easier to defend. Castel San Pietro witnessed several phases of what went down in history as the Battle of Palestrina, fought in 1848 by the soldiers of the Roman Republic led by Giuseppe Garibaldi and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

Mentorella

The Madre delle Grazie Sanctuary in Mentorella is one of the oldest Marian shrines in Italy and Europe.

It rises 1018 meters above sea level, on a protruding cliff on the eastern side of Monte Guadagnolo (Monti Prenestini), which almost flows into the Valle del Giovenzano below, between Tivoli and Palestrina, southeast of Rome. It belongs to the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church (Diocese of Tivoli) and is guarded by the Congregation of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
